The Pluto Interregnum.

The word interregnum is Latin for “between two reigns.” It describes the period between one king leaving and the next arriving.

This was Ra’s name for the period from 1781 to 2027 — one full orbit of Pluto. And now, we’re at the end of it.

On May 13th, Ilse and I will explore what that actually means: what Pluto does to a generation, why 1781 was the starting point, the frozen worlds, the Godheads, and the one question running beneath all of it — the question you’ve been asking your whole life.

Gate 23 is The Gate of Assimilation, in other words "I Know".

Miranda knows. She has known since approximately Tuesday, though she couldn't tell you how she knows or show you the working. The knowing arrived, as it always does, fully formed and slightly startling, like a bird that has flown in through an open window and is now just sitting there on the furniture, entirely certain it belongs.
Miranda has an insight. It is genuine, it is individual, and it arrived from somewhere she couldn't point to on a map. The question — and Miranda is working on this, she really is — is whether the room is ready to hear it yet.

Gate 2 is The Gate of Higher Knowing, in other words "I Know Where I am Going".
Russell is not lost - he would like you to understand this clearly. Russell has absolutely no idea where he is going, which is entirely different. The car knows. Russell just hasn't quite managed to let go of the wheel.
Russell has a direction. It was installed at birth, it runs on something deeper than logic, and it has never once required his input. Russell has been providing input anyway, enthusiastically and at some length, for the better part of seventy years.

Gate 24 is The Gate of Rationalising, in other words "It'll Come To Me".

Pippa is processing. Pippa has been processing since approximately Tuesday. She couldn't tell you what she's processing exactly — that's rather the point. But she'll know when she knows, and she'll know it when she does, and in the meantime the song from the dentist's waiting room is on its fourteenth loop and showing no signs of stopping.
Pippa has a knowing somewhere in the back of her mind that is absolutely on its way. Pip has been reassuring people of this since Thursday. It is now the following Wednesday. The knowing, for its part, is taking the scenic route.

Dora has been making sure everyone has enough since before she could reach the kitchen counter. She is still not entirely sure what enough looks like for herself, but she’s working on it.
Dora would give you her last biscuit, her last hour, and quite possibly her last reserves of anything she has left. The question nobody ever thought to ask — including Dora — is what Dora would like for lunch.
